About Y2K Arcade

Imagine walking into an arcade in 1993. Cabinets humming, CRT screens glowing, someone's initials blinking at the top of a high-score table. Y2K Arcade is that feeling, rebuilt for the browser in your pocket.

Original, not emulated

Every cabinet here is an original game written for this site. The genres are classic (space shooters, snake, brick breakers, falling blocks, vector asteroids) but the code, pixel art, sound effects and chiptune loops are all ours. Nothing is ripped from a ROM and no commercial characters appear.

No downloads, no accounts

Games load instantly and run in plain HTML5 canvas at 60 frames per second. Your high scores, achievements and preferences are saved in your browser's local storage and never leave your device. Clearing site data resets the machine.

Built for phones too

Every game has on-screen arcade controls, swipe gestures where they make sense, and layouts that avoid covering the action. Desktop players get full keyboard and mouse support.

Sound

All audio is synthesized live with the Web Audio API: laser zaps, explosions, coin drops and the music loops. Nothing plays until you interact with the page, and the SFX, music and CRT effect toggles in the header remember your choice.

Accessibility

The site respects your reduced-motion setting (the CRT flicker, blinking prompts and ticker all stop), uses real buttons for every control, and keeps text readable on small screens.
